Fiberglass components should
be thoroughly rinsed with water to remove any mold release residue
from the manufacturing process.
Place matching components
upside down on a flat, level surface & align flanges using
3 or 4 C-clamps.
When flanges have been aligned,
drill 11/32"
holes through both flanges at approximately 6" to 8"
centers. Flanges have hole location marks imprinted in fiberglass.
Install 1" x 5/16" stainless
steel hex bolts with stainless steel fender washers & nuts
in holes. Do not fully tighten at this time.
With these bolts loose,
remove clamps & spread flange/joint apart 1/4" - 3/8".
(See Illustration)
At this time, inject a thick
bead of silicone sealer into this joint using a cartridge gun.
As soon as the joint has
been filled with a heavy bead of silicone, all bolts should be
tightened in sequence as quickly as possible to provide a waterproof
seal & mate the components.
Turn the pond unit over
& promptly fill the remaining joint/gap with silicone &
smooth surface to blend.
The silicone should be allowed
to cure for a minimum of 48 hours before being exposed to water.
(Assuming ambient air temperature of 70°F)
