Plumbing Fittings These are some of the more difficult to locate ABS (BLACK) plumbing fittings, commonly used in pond construction. These fittings are intended for sewer plumbing. Their design allows solid waste to pass through the fittings and pipe with the least amount of friction. These types of fittings are called DWV east of Arizona and Nevada. They are made out of PVC plastic (WHITE). ABS plastic is different than PVC and therefore requires a different glue. If you are using ABS fittings in combination with PVC fittings or pipe, you would use a "transition glue".  Especially useful in gravity fed and return systems. Glue
