Bulkhead fittings... A specialized plastic fitting which allows the user to make a
water-tight plumbing passage through a flexible liner or pond wall.

	Cut hole in liner or pond, install bulkhead through this hole and secure it in place with a locking nut on the outside wall of the liner or pond. Final water-tight seal is assured with the use of a closed cell gasket (included with each bulkhead). Useful component for retrofitting ponds. Not used on concrete.  Bulkhead installation tip for flexible liner applications: Apply a small bead of silicone fo the face of the locknut. When you tighten the nut, the silicone will allow the nut to slip on the liner and not bunch the liner up as without silicone.

This allows for the installation of a bulkhead type fitting without the need to access a lock nut on the backside of the liner (outboard side of liner). Typically mounted in the mid water level side wall area of a pond, they provide a gentle flow of returning water which creates a circular flow pattern in the pond. This helps waste to collect at bottom drain locations. The flow also aids in providing excerise to fish populations. We recommend maximum flow rates, as a return feature, for the 1 1/2" size at 700-800 gph and 800 to 1000 gph for the 2". However, specific pond profile shape, depth, type of bottom drain and overall pond use and design can vary these general flow rates greatly. These TPR fittings can also be used in DIY filter systems to concentrate waste in the bottom of filter systems and therefore minimize water use and time to back flush. 	Multi-port (3-way) Valves: Multi-port valves form a "T" in the plumbing or in a pipe and allow for controlled passage of water through one or the other ports of the "T". Especially used in situations where plumbing space is at a premium and to simplify the plumbing.

Knife Valves: (Also called slide or gate valve) More ecomomical to use than ball valves, these valves are used on pond systems where water is to be turned all the way off or all the way on. Examples would be: the suction side of a pump, pond bottom drain or a filter drain.

Swing Check Valves: A specialized PVC fitting used to allow water flow in one direction through a pipe. An example of use is to locate this valve between the discharge side of the pump and the biological filter. If power is lost at the pump, a check valve will automatically close preventing unfiltered water from backflushing into the pond.

Never use a Spring check valve on any pond system. Spring check valves clog easily on pond systems.

They are attracted to the high velocity of the water travelling through the pipes. This can reduce the efficiency of a check valve. True union check valves allow the pond keeper to periodically clear snails from the check valve flap. You can add unions to either side of a standard (white) check valve. (See next item below)

	C404	Benthic Jet: Benthic refers to the bottom environment of the pond. Jets are used in larger ponds to blow debris from areas that would otherwise lie stagnant. These jets thread into a 1 1/2" bulkhead fitting (#C215) or (in the case of a concrete pond ­ a 1 1/2" PVC female adapter) and have an infinitely adjustable rotating eyeball with a 1" diameter hole in the middle of the eyeball sphere.
