How to InstallBulkhead Fittings |

2. Using inner diameter of gasket as a pattern, mark pond liner at location of bulkhead to be installed. 3. Cut hole in liner. 4. In the case of flexible liners, make certain the hole you cut in your flexible liner fits snugly against the root diameter of the threads on the bulkhead fitting up against the back side of the bulkhead flange. Having done this, remove bulkhead from cut hole. 5. Install sealing gasket on bulkhead. Slide bulkhead with sealing gasket from inside wall of pond through hole in liner. 6. Apply a small continuous bead of silicone sealant on flat face of bulkhead nut. (Do not apply silicone sealant to gasket in the attempt to create greater sealing capacity of the bulkhead. Applying sealant to the gasket will cause the gasket to deform and ooze out from the bulkhead flange face upon tightening the nut, causing a big mess and a poor seal.) The purpose of the silicone sealant on the nut is to provide a lubricant on which the nut will slide (instead of binding on the flexible liner). This method also provides some final sealing ability. 7. Tighten lock nut with silicone bead against outside wall of liner tight enough to crush the sealing gasket against the interior liner wall and bulkhead flange. (Remember, this is only a plastic nut and not a metal one.) 8. In situations where access to the locknut is limited (outboard side of the liner) , it is acceptable to reverse the position of the bulkhead such that the lock nut is on the inboard (pond side) of the liner. Always position the gasket against the back side of the bulkhead flange face - never on the nut flat surface side. Note: Aqua Art recommends the use of flexible PVC pipe to connect bulkhead fittings to rigid pipe lines. This method relieves stress that would otherwise be exerted on the bulkhead. |
